Mad about Macarons

Ok, Ok... I am addicted to these little morsels of heaven!

I have finally decided that, yes I am addicted to making these, and cupcakes. If I could right now, I would bake so many of these delicious treats, in so many flavours and colours. But I'm out of almonds so I can't. And I'm really the only one in the house who likes them (how I don't know).

Anyway, to use some of the caramel sauce and frosting I had from the Deadly Caramel Cupcakes, I decided to make some Macarons and fill them with said frosting. I then spread some caramel on the top of the sandwiched macaron, finished off with a sprinkle of salt, and I had the most delicious bite sized salted caramel treat.

Needless to say, with me being the only one in this house who likes them, these were the only ones that were filled, the rest of the shells were put into a ziploc bag and put into the freezer, I have been using them for Ice Cream sandwiches, they are good like that too. I got the recipe for these Macarons from Cake Journal and I followed the recipe so closely, and they worked perfectly for me. I think the great descriptions and photos at every step were the biggest help to me, I wanted to prove I could make these perfect, and quite frankly, I think I did.

My little helper likes them too
I don't think I have introduced my son yet, but this is Lucas, he will be 3 in May. He helped me make these. Well really he helped ruin a few in the sitting process, but never mind, he helped to eat them and that's all he really wanted (and to lick the mixing attachment).

He is starting to become my companion in the kitchen, he likes to bake and watch me while I am baking and cooking. It must run in the family. I remember when I was little, sitting on the kitchen bench watching my Poppa bake biscuits for us. I hope that Lucas will love to bake just like I do when he is older.

On another note, I am trying to save some money for a Digital SLR camera, instead of using my ordinary digital camera. I would like to be able to take decent photos, including heaps of props, I'm trying to build up my stash of props for photos.

Until next time, happy baking.

  1. Yum!

It's so fun to cook with kids (but it can be a lot more work!).

  2. So very true. He's getting to the age where he can actually help too, so it's good. As soon as he sees the mixer come out, he's up on his stool just waiting to help, and to lick everything clean when we are finished. (I must admit that was my favourite part of baking when I was little).
